The CRP recording for entry into Jewish schools in September 2018 will run from May 2018 to January 2019. Please note that Barnet Shul records attendance on Shabbat mornings only.
For entry to Jewish Schools
Jewish schools can no longer give priority in their admissions policy to Jewish children based purely on Halachic grounds, and prioritisation can now only be achieved by gaining a sufficient number of qualifying points on a Certificate of Religious Practice (CRP) form devised by each school. One of the criteria to gain sufficient points for United Synagogue schools is a requirement for Shabbat morning Synagogue attendance.
We stress that you should read carefully the CRP form for the school to which you are applying in order to conform to their specific requirements. The procedures that we are adopting at Barnet Synagogue so that your child's attendance may be verified by us are:
The dates for qualifying attendance run from the beginning of May until the beginning of January next year inclusive. Please note that Barnet Shul records attendance on Shabbat morning only; we do not record on Friday evenings;
In order to obtain points for Synagogue attendance you must register your child no later than 12noon on the Thursday prior to the first Shabbat attendance at Barnet Synagogue. If your child requires attendance to be recorded at another Synagogue on any Shabbat, you must contact that Synagogue at least 48 hours in advance to register there.
The Synagogue office will prepare 8 numbered attendance cards for your child and store them alphabetically in a card index box;
Attendance points will be granted for attendance. Please study your CRP form to ascertain how many points will be granted for each number of attendances;
In order for your Shabbat morning attendance to be verified, you must collect an attendance card from the registration desk in the Shul lobby between 10:30am and 10:45am each Shabbat morning. Your child should be encouraged to attend a children'sservice;
A deposit box will be available next to the Ark at the front of the Shul from after the end of the main Shul service until Kiddush is recited.
After Shabbat, the Synagogue Office updates the spreadsheet of attendance for that day. The cards are then sealed in a dated envelope as a permanent record and locked away;
Once your child has reached 8 attendances, we generate a confirmation letter for you to attach to your school application(s). Please let us know if you require the letter sooner.
i) Only one card per child will be issued each week;
ii) Children applying for Secondary School and Sixth Form must be present themselves to collect and deposit the attendance record card. Cards for those applying for Nursery or Reception may be collected and deposited by the child and/or their parent;
iii) Children or parents are not permitted to collect or deposit the card for others;
iv) Barnet Synagogue will not be recording attendance at Friday night services;
v) If your child misses the card collection time and/or deposit time, attendance cannot be recorded for that week;
vi) Barnet Synagogue cannot sign individual forms. Schools will accept our confirmation letter
